Hobby Lobby Goes Viral!

Talk about going viral!  The internet exploded the same day that the Hobby Lobby decision was handed down by the Fascist Five.

In no particular order, we present a small portion of what we saw...opeds, toons, memes, petitions, calls for donations, and cries of outrage that we haven't seen since Bush v. Gore!

Here's what happened...

"The Supreme Court Thinks Corporations Are People but Women Aren't."

"As far as the Supreme Court is concerned, we're still in the 19th century when it comes to women's rights.
In a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court today ruled that for-profit corporations like Hobby Lobby can discriminate against their female employees by denying them birth control coverage as required under

"Obamacare as long as those corporations believe that doing so 'violates' their religious beliefs.
According to the Court, "closely-held" corporations like Hobby Lobby are protected by a 1993 law called the Religious Freedom Restoration Act - a law that protects people - let me repeat, PEOPLE, as in homo sapiens sapiens - from having "substantial burdens" placed on their religious beliefs..."

And a scathing remark from a real jurist...

"Ruth Bader Ginsburg Writes Scathing 35-Page Dissent In Birth Control Case."



"The Supreme Court delivered a blow to universal birth control coverage on Monday, ruling that closely-held corporations can refuse to cover contraception in their health plans for religious reasons. But Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg sharply disagreed with the five conservatives on the court, delivering a scathing, 35-page dissent and defense of mandatory contraception coverage.

"'In a decision of startling breadth, the Court holds that commercial enterprises, including corporations, along with partnerships and sole proprietorships, can opt out of any law (saving only tax laws) they judge incompatible with their sincerely held religious beliefs,' Ginsburg wrote. She said she feared that with its decision, the court had 'ventured into a minefield....'"

"From Notre Dame to manufacturers, dozens of companies were waiting for the Supreme Court’s decision in order to opt-out of Obamacare’s contraception mandate.

"Monday’s Supreme Court decision in favor of the company and Conestoga Wood of Pennsylvania for refusing to pay for contraception in health insurance affects far more than the 15,000 employees between them. The Supreme Court’s decision allows closely held companies (corporations with more than 50 percent of stock owned by five or fewer individuals) to opt out of the Affordable Care Act’s contraception mandate. There are at least 80 other companies fighting to be the next Hobby Lobby..."

"GOP Senator: Women Use Birth Control for Mostly 'Recreational Behavior'"



"Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) has wasted no time in weighing in on the Supreme Court’s decision in the Hobby Lobby contraception case. According to Think Progress, Lee said that he agreed with the decision because women use contraception as protection against recreational behavior.

"Think Progress notes that Lee was on Sirius XM’s 'The Wilkow Majority,' where he expressed his opinion. The host, Andrew Wilkow, said that the real question was whether a company should be forced to provide for something that’s intended for recreational use. Part of Lee’s response included:

"Yea, that’s right, that’s right. This administration is using the often coercive power of the federal government to force people into their way of being and their way of existing, their way of believing and thinking and acting."

"The owners of a chain of stores called Hobby Lobby don't like Obamacare. In particular, they really don't like the part that requires insurance companies to cover contraceptives. Normally, people who don't like a law petition the government to change that law. That's how a nation of laws works.

"But these men are Christians. The Supreme Court ruled Monday that Christian business owners are special. Their deeply held religious belief that some particular form of contraception is immoral carries more weight than the force of law, five conservative Christian justices ruled..."

And while the SCOTUS's approval ratings hit a historical low before the decision was handed down...

"A new poll released just as the Supreme Court dealt significant blows to women and workers finds that Americans' confidence in the judicial branch is at a record low.

"The Gallup survey released Monday found that just 30 percent of respondents have a 'great deal' or a 'quite a lot' of confidence in the high court, down seven points from the 2012 survey and marking the lowest approval number for the court since Gallup first started tracking confidence in the court in 1973. The court has not received approval ratings above 40 percent since 2007, one year after George W. Bush appointee Samuel Alito's confirmation..."

To those who boycotted Hobby Lobby to no avail, there will be an equal and opposite reaction to the Fascist Five's joining of church and state.

Calls have gone out for impeachment and term limits for the SCOTUS.

AND they may have forgotten about a candidate who may have some additional ammo to use against the Cons in 2016, Hillary Clinton.
